Back to Gardens I Have Visited Page Springfest Flower and Garden March 2009The Conservatory, Sussex County Fairgrounds My family and I recently went to the Springfest Flower and Garden Show in Augusta, New Jersey. This show is produced by Agricultural Division of the New Jersey State Fair. There was a window box competition, local landscapers had exhibits and an orchid show plus booths selling garden-related items. There were also lectures but we didn't go to any of them becasue we were interested in taking pictures. It was held inside the new conservatory at the fairgrounds. It was $11 per ticket but I got a $1 off coupon. Because I took a photo of just about every flower we were there about 2 hours but this show was much smaller than the NJ Flower Show I went to in February and the price of the ticket seemed expensive compared to the size of the show. The Conservatory
Windowbox Competition What I liked best about the windowbox competition, other than the beautiful flowers, of course, was that they had a book by the exhibit with one page for each windowbox which had the name of each of the flowers. Identifying the flower names is always a problem for me when I do my fower designs.

Here are some of the exhibits that were put together by local landscapers.
This is the grand prize winner of the landscaping exhibits.
Orchid Exhibit The American Orchid Society sponsored this exhibit. All the orchids were exhibited on one wall and it was difficult to see the ones toward the top and because of the limited floor space, it was very crowded around it. Other photographers kept elbowing me out of the way (they probably thought the same thing about me.) However, I did get some nice pictures of the orchids. Good thing there are zoom lenses.
Topiary Exhibit Duke Gardens in Somerset, NJ donated these topiary to Springfest and the gardens and parks of the Fairgrounds.
